A weekend in Rosarito

March is a new month, and that means a new trip somewhere. I just got back from a weekend in Rosarito down in Mexico for a friend’s birthday. We stayed at Festival Plaza with an ocean view, got drunk and rode a mechanical bull, got drunk and drove quads on the beach, got drunk and played some volleyball (starting to see a pattern yet?), and plenty of other things not fit to post on a website my parents might read.

This was the first time I had ever been to Mexico, despite having lived 15 minutes from the border for almost 2 years now. People there were very friendly, although a little pushy when trying to sell us things. It’s pretty surprising how different things look once you cross the border. Except for the touristy areas, a lot of Mexico looks like a third-world country. We ended up taking the scenic drive back, so we came through most of the ghettos between Rosarito and TJ on the way back. The roads weren’t in the best condition, and somewhere along the way we had to take evasive action to avoid a car-sized pothole. Overall, it was a fun trip and it makes me appreciate living here all the more.
