I just recently found out about Californication, which is a series on Showtime. For those unaware, David Duchovny is back and he’s playing a writer with a severe case of writer’s block. He’s stuck in a city he can’t stand (LA), he’s depressed, drinks way too much, ends up in bed with a different woman every night, and when he finds out that his ex-live-in-girlfriend with whom he has a child is about to get married to another man he starts trying to turn it around.

I’ve only watched about half of season 1 so far, but it’s very good so far. It’s entertaining, funny, sometimes serious, and it offers something that a lot of us can relate to.

As if the title of the show wasn’t an obvious enough Red Hot Chili Peppers reference, one of the characters on the show is named “Dani California” and a different character has a line “here we are at the edge of the world and all of western civilization” which is a line from a RHCP song. The band actually sued to get the name of the show changed, but hopefully that won’t affect releasing it on DVD!
